January Pictures

I haven't meant to be a once or twice a month blogger, but that is just kind of how it is happening as of late. We had a good January and I can hardly believe it is already over. Here are some pictures to recap. For my day of teaching preschool in January the topic was fish. I thought it would be fun to get some goldfish for the kids to see the real deal. The kids loved the fish, but there have been several lessons learned from owning goldfish...let me share.

1. I had no idea they were so high maintenance. We are talking changing their water every other day. Something that this pregnant woman has not wanted to do. I have heard from Shay's mouth many a time, "whose idea was it to get these fish?"

2. If you don't put them in a proper fish bowl these little buggers swim around like their crazy. They were first in the vases pictured below. We weren't sure they could find their food all the way at the top (week 3 into this we're not sure they like to eat at all, at least while we are watching). So we changed them to another bowl. Lesson learned...don't put fish in a bowl that has etched flowers on the side. They swim around even crazier. They are currently in an emptied 2 Liter soda bottle with the top cut off (they seem a little more calm in there). Shay was going around looking for a bigger, Tupperware type container they could have room to roam. I told him there were none that I wanted fish goo in. He then told me they were like POWs (prisoners of war). Got a good giggle out of that one. Next time (if ever there is a next time of us owning fish) we will get them a proper fish bowl or tank.

3. You definitely need to buy a fish net to go with fish so that you can transfer them during the water changing process. I looked over while Shay was changing their water one night to see a mortified Shay. He was emptying some of the water out (with the fish in it) and one of the fishie's slipped down the sink. Shay doesn't even kill spiders, he lets them go outside. He felt horrible. He flushed enough water down the sink hoping that the fish would slip down the drain before the garbage disposal got him. When Nicholas noticed the next morning that one was missing I got to explain what had happened.

4. Probably the best lesson learned, I (Kim) am not a pet person. I know fish are probably the easist pet to own, but it has not been for me. I will think twice about purchasing any other pets.

And for your enjoyment, some pictures of the little guys. We started out with 5 and we are now down to 2. Two have gone the way of the tubes and one resides at William's home. My favorite was when Em was looking into this vase she had her hands wrapped around the back which resulted in her hands being big and she said to me, "Mine hands are big."

Moving on to other January things. I had to take a picture of this one night just to remember. This is Emilie's line up of friends to sleep with. Perhaps a bit much? She doesn't think so. In fact, she probably got this from me. I remember having a lot on my bed growing up too.

My sister Julianna got this cute little dress for Emilie. That morning was the easist morning to get her dressed because she had something new to wear. I told Shay I just might have to have something new everyday for her to wear. He said something like, "yeah, right."

That same morning Nicholas was at preschool so we ladies decided to paint toe nails. I pulled all my colors out for Em to look through. She had a lot of fun looking through all of them to pick one out.

That made dad think of his big bear pants that the kids could both fit into. So we got some good laughs out of them both being in the bear pants. Mostly falling on the floor because they couldn't move together. It was quite hilarious.

And I just have to share because I am so excited about it. I am making a quilt for baby #3 (we have yet to decide on a name). Here is the fabric and here is the pattern (the pinwheel one). I bought some of the fabric on Saturday and it makes me happy just looking at it. I am so excited to get started.
